Promote and cultivate creative thinking for fun, profit and personal growth
What is a white eagle doing in Durant, Oklahoma?
In November of 2005--right prior to Thanksgiving--William Lloyd was driving to one of the Love's
gas stations in Durant, OK.  While at the intersection of Evergreen and 6th (right across from the bail
bondsman), William saw, much to his amazement, a white eagle in the middle of the street.  The
majestic bird was standing casually amongst several other ordinary birds that were picking at debris on
the street.  William stopped his car (there was no other traffic at the time) and took a long hard look
at this incredible sight.  The eagle, so it appeared, returned William's gaze, and it was as if the eagle
grinned and winked.

In a sustained effort to understand and explain this vision, William sought information from
friends, relatives, his therapist, fellow professors, naturalists (or people who know about that kind of
stuff), clergy and assorted sages, and our lord Google.  Yet, no satisfactory answers were given.  "I saw
a white eagle on a street in my town.  No one believed me.  How could it be?  Uh huh, I'll figure it out
now."  As it is said, understanding and wisdom are given to those that diligently seek them, and each
person must ultimately discover these things on his own (just like in The Wizard of Oz!).  And so it
was that William eventually came to an understanding--in both a literal and a symbolic sense--of his
encounter with the white eagle.  The literal explanation is rather ordinary, but the symbolic . . .

William wrote a song called "White Eagle," and he likes to say that the song is "for children of all
ages, because it is about you: About who you are, and about who you can become."  That is also where
the name for the school came from.  Fortunate is the person who has been granted (and who sincerely
participates in the creation of) a story (or myth if you will--Will-I-Am, I do not like green eggs and
ham.  In fact, I never liked eggs at all, let alone green ones) to explain one's self to one's self.
"You're a prince and you're a poet, open your heart and then you'll know it."
